Why is home insurance important for your family?
Home Insurance: Your home is your castle, but how well is yours protected? Can it take whatever the weather throws at it? What if another long, hot summer opens up hidden problems? Or a spot of DIY turns into an SOS?
In life, you simply don’t know what’s around the corner.
So to protect your home and the things you love, there’s home insurance. This comes in two types – buildings insurance, which covers the buildings along with fixtures such as your bathroom, and contents insurance, which covers most of the things you’d take with you if you moved. In this post, we look at why you may need home insurance.
If you’re applying for a mortgage, buildings insurance is essential – you won’t get a mortgage without it. Both types of insurance provide financial protection and peace of mind, which means for the things your policy covers, your insurance provider pays out, not you. if your home was damaged or your possessions are stolen, you would be protected financially. Often you can add home emergency cover for things like a burst pipe or boiler breakdown to your policy.

If your home were to become uninhabitable due to fire or flood, for example, home insurance can cover the cost of alternative accommodation for you, your family, and your pets. Contents insurance may cover you for accidental damage.
If it’s not part of your policy, you can often add it separately.
Most contents insurance policies provide what’s called new for old. If you need, you’ll be able to replace the item with a brand new one. Some of your possessions may be only a couple of months old, but some you may have had for quite a while, such as your five-year-old TV. With new for old cover, you could receive a new one, or receive its equivalent value into your bank account if something were to happen to your old model.
Whether you need home insurance to validate your mortgage application, or you’re just looking to cover the things inside your home, But it’s important to make sure that you have the right level of cover for the things you’re looking to protect.
